Let's Bike It With The GS - 3. A big change is coming without I could expect it - Talking with Bikers' Community and discovering bigger bikes
Hi Internet, I hope you enjoyed reading my Article 1 and 2 but if you didn't read them yet, please do so ;)
In this article you're going to discover what big things were about to happen without I could expect them at all!
So after I could ride with my scooter Kimco Dink Sreet, a 125cc in a mono cylinder engine, I used to get more bikers friends around me.
One day, it was about 4 months after I purchased my scooter, a biker's friend who was more experienced than me showed me his new motorcycle: The Kawasaki Versys 600cc.
when I saw it, it looked like an airplane because I could not understand how to ride with it.
Remember that I was riding with a scooter (first experience) since 4 months only that doesn't have a clutch for instance, and the way you drive a motorcycle is quiet different than a scooter like mine.
So my friend and I were discussing and at a moment he just told me "You know Hamza, it's cool that you discovered the world of bikers, but believe me, the day you'll ride with a motorcycle like mine, you'll forget about what you did with your scooter. if you want to get the real pleasure and becoming a real Biker, you need to evolve riding bigger bikes. you shall understand it only after you get a try!".
The discussion I had with my friend was kept in my mind and therefore I went to a motorcycle dealership so I can ask him few questions about riding with a scooter 125 cc against bigger bikes.
As the reply I got from the advisor was "it's completely two different worlds between your scooter and these bigger bikes. But you really need to give yourself a test drive, you will be convinced by yourself more easily (having a big smile)" and so the answer was quiet similar to my friend's one, I told to myself "maybe I should start thinking seriously about it".
But before considering the ability to grow up and looking for a bigger bike, I was facing the issue that I just... don't have my Motorcycle Driving License !
Indeed, in my driving license, I was only authorized to ride with a bike with up to 125cc engine. For bigger bikes, I need to pass the courses and the exams so to get the appropiate driving license "grade".
Since that moment I knew I need to follow courses and pass the exams, representing a budget of 1000 Eur, I was getting all time the question "does it really worth it ? Does it really worth it ? Does it really worth it ?"
Here I was looking for a big motivation that will push me up deciding to take my courses and pass the exams so I can really get a big bike! but how will I manage this? what could really help me out to take the right decision out there ?
You will probably tell me to go to a motorcycle dealership and ask for a test drive here, but remember that as I don't have a driving license to ride as big bikes as a 125cc, they won't let me ride one of their motorcycles ! so I had to find out how.
Then I had an idea ! Maybe it's not the best idea ever but this worked and made my life changing a lot!
I visited our Belgian second hands website where you can actually buy and sell everything you want (almost :) ). I typed in the search field "T-Max". I think I don't really need to tell you what T-Max is because of its popularity. But in case you don't really know, it's a big scooter bike, more powerful than my 125cc, with dual cylinder. it's still Not a motorcycle with a clutch, and the reason why I looked at the T-Max was because I never rode with a motorcycle with a clutch so I could not be able to manage it if I do a test drive for instance.
Also, a lot of people were telling me that the T-Max gives you the feeling you drive a real motorcycle because of its power.
So I found someone who was about to sell his T-Max bike, I called him so we can meet and see the bike in place. Once we met, he kindly asked me if I want to try it and guess what was happening in my brain... lol.
So I started putting my helmet and gloves in, put on the engine, and then pulling up the throttle during 5 km on road.
Then guess what ? Believe me or not, but this time I rode with the T-Max made me dreaming every day I was riding a big bike so I was happy and excited ! Until I decided to invest on taking courses and pass the exam!
For those who want to know it, I did not buy the T-Max. My initial idea was that I needed to test drive something bigger which I did and see if my friend and the dealership were right, and they absolutely were! And also because the guy who was selling his T-Max did not tell me his bike got an accident that I discovered on my own!
So after I test drove a bigger bike, I was but completely convinced I had to go beyond a 125cc engine!
The next step I was preparing was following courses, pass the 3 exams (one theory, 2 practices).
I'm gonna talk about it in my next Article !
It is very nice. I enjoyed a lot.
